KinoSol originated with the mission to decrease global food waste. The KinoSol team began by focusing on small-scale farmers in rural communities, to understand their challenges and needs around food preservation. From this beginning, KinoSol realized the problem of food waste was just as impactful in our own back yard. We redesigned and engineered our product to fit the needs of consumers here in the U.S. and are excited to help families across the nation reduce their food waste, improve their health and nutrition, and mitigate their environmental impact.

Beginning with our initial design (pictured above) KinoSol units utilized natural convection to dehydrate fruits and vegetables. Early prototypes were made from plywood and Plexiglas. Feedback and research showed the need for storage, mobility, and a larger capacity for drying.

Our domestic model is our ninth version and features lightweight Lexan and plastic components to make it easy to move and assemble. The cylindrical design and four ventilated shelves help improve capacity, so you can get even more out of your KinoSol solar dehydrator.

KinoSol has partnered with numerous organizations for field-testing all over the world. We have worked primarily with aid organizations, churches, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Each organization has been instrumental in helping KinoSol collect field data from various communities, climates, and environments.
